IPL: Like Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh will be crucial for KKR in crunch situations – Pragyan Ojha

Former India cricketer Pragyan Ojha has talked highly of his former teammate and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Harbhajan Singh ahead of the IPL 2021 season. Pragyan has reckoned that the vast experience of Harbhajan will be very crucial for KKR in crunch situations, especially when fighting hard to qualify for the play-offs.

Pragyan Ojha, who was recently seen playing for India Legends in the Road Safety World Series, added that Harbhajan Singh has the experience of winning IPL titles with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) and knows about the planning behind becoming a champion team.

“He has got a lot of experience. If you talk about someone who has played so much cricket, obviously if you look at Harbhajan Singh’ career, the way he has played for MI, CSK, he has played for both the teams and they have won the championship. So the experience that he carries will be of a lot of value and as you said Kolkata will be very happy to have him and the memories he has at Eden Gardens but unfortunately they won’t be playing in Kolkata.

“They will be playing in Chennai, Mumbai and other cities like there is no home advantage for anything in this IPL because of IPL. He is a very popular man in India and one of the favourite boys of Kolkata because every time he has played there he has delivered something special for our country and he must be aching to good out there and perform out there in front of those huge crowd and cricketing loving city but unfortunately he has to wait for a year. But yes, if you talk of experience, I think no one better than him.

“He has led MI, he has been there and done that, he knows how to win championships, he knows what kind of pressure you go through. So he will be important, talking to the youngsters and as I talked about Suresh Raina, Bhajju pa will also be important for KKR when they are in crunch situations, especially when they are trying to go on to play those play-offs. He is the man who knows what kind of preparation you need, what kind of panning you need,” Pragyan Ojha told Sports Today.

40-year-old Harbhajan Singh had opted out of the IPL 2020 due to personal reasons. Ahead of the IPL 2020 mini-auction which was held in February, CSK released the veteran off-spinner. Harbhajan went unsold in the first round before getting a buyer in KKR. The 2-time champions bought him at his base price of Rs 2 crore.

Harbhajan has completed his mandatory 7-day quarantine period and is currently training hard with his KKR teammates.

KKR will face SRH in their first match of IPL 2021 on April 11 in Chennai.
